Cape Country Club holds member tourney

The team of Mark Kneer, Mike Bennett, Chris Bradshaw and Ross Bennett placed first in the four-man format at the annual member-member golf tournament Saturday and Sunday at Cape Girardeau Country Club.

In the two-man formats, Kneer and Mike Bennett were the best ball winners, while Bradshaw and Ross Bennett were alternate shot winners.

Keith Middleton and Eric Kimberly won the scramble, and Tim Kelly and Steve Logel won the modified Chapman.

Placing second in the four-man teams competition was the foursome of Tom Benton, Alan Benton, Steve Byrd and Butch Smiley. Finishing third was the foursome of Al Spradling, Mark Clarke, Brian Rogers and Jerry Van Oostrom.

Ganeles scores hole in one at Jaycees course

Drew Ganeles used a 5-iron to ace the 177-yard hole No. 18 at the Cape Jaycee Municipal Golf Course on Saturday.

Mark Morrill and Jeff Green witnessed the shot.

Cape Central swimmer Susan Beth Scott was part of the 400 freestyle relay team that won the silver medal Monday at the Parapan American Games in Rio de Janeiro.

Cape 10-year old all-stars split games

Cape Girardeau Cal Ripken League 10-year-old baseball team split its last two games at the Babe Ruth World Series in Vincennes, Ind.

Cape knocked off the host team from Vincennes, Ind., 11-4 on Sunday. Cape opened the scoring in the third when Matt Chism tripled then scored on Ryan Tegel's single to shallow right.

Cape went to work in the fifth with two outs. Thomas Himmelberg knocked in a run with a single. Chase Hagerty singled with the bases loaded to score two.

Cape finished its scoring in the sixth when Tom Siebert, Chase Urhahn and Hagerty all drew a bases-loaded walk to plate runs. Hayden Lynn singled to drive in two and Cameron Grueninger's single scored one.

Cape's tournament came to an end Monday when it lost 9-4 to Spring-Ford, Pa.

Hagerty delivered an RBI single in the first. Himmelberg singled to drive in J.D. Harding then Adam Pope scored on a double steal.

Cape capped its scoring in the fifth on Josh Morse's sacrifice fly.
