Former Southeast Missouri State sprinter Miles Smith will run in his first professional race Saturday at the Cork City International Track and Field meet in Cork, Ireland.

"I'm looking forward to starting my pro career on Saturday," Smith said in a news release.

Smith finished 12th in the recent U.S. Olympic Trials.

Haas takes first in golf outing

JoEllen Haas took first place in the A flight during the Cape Chip A Ways weekly golf outing.

Bev Wink won the B flight.

Waunita VanDyke and Marge Kurre tied for the low putts, while Linda Williams had the play of the day.

Simmons captures first in Tour division

Tim Simmons shot a 74 to win the 16 to 19 boys 18-hole Tour division at the PGA Gateway Junior Series tournament Wednesday at Westwood Hills Country Club.

Emily Matthews shot an 82 to win the 16 to 19 girls 18-hole Tour division.
