The Cape Girardeau Plaza Tire Junior American Legion baseball team defeated Jackson twice Saturday to capture the district tournament title.
Marc Rivas knocked in Ramsey Scott and Thomas Crocetti with a double in the bottom of the sixth inning to lead Cape to the 4-3 win in the winner-take-all game.
Austin Caldwell and Aaron Grainger both scored once for Cape (13-17).
Nick Essner tossed a complete game to earn the win. He struck out five and didn't issue a walk.
Cape needed to beat Jackson earlier in the day to reach the winner-take-all contest.
Logan Henson went the distance on the mound. He struck out four and walked one in the 5-3 win.
Scott went 2 for 3 with two RBIs and two runs scored, while Justin Landewee went 2 for 4 in the win.
Cape advances to the zone tournament, which it hosts starting Thursday at Central High School. Jackson also qualified for the zone tournament because Cape is hosting it, which means the district gets two entrants this year.
The Jackson Senior Babe Ruth baseball team won its 20th game of the season Saturday, beating the Charleston Fighting Squirrels 16-10 at the Charleston wood bat tournament.
Jackson (20-13), which went 2-1 in the tournament, had 12 hits. Derek Landewee, Alex Beussink and Jon Winkler all delivered two hits.
Jesse Long picked up the pitching victory. He entered the game with no outs and the bases loaded in the third inning and pitched the final five innings. He allowed four runs and five hits while walking only one.
Jackson will host the Charleston Woodpeckers on Monday in a 6 p.m. doubleheader at Legion Field.
Ken Swinford took first place at Dalhousie Golf Club's Flag tournament, which was rescheduled to Saturday.
Bob Gile finished second, while Jim Clay took third. Jim Eakin was fourth, while Paul Giebler, Bob Garrett and Harriette Myers tied for fifth.
Roy Leighton covered the 5-kilometer course in 18 minutes, 40.81 seconds to win the 24th annual Capaha Classic on Saturday.
Lars Monia finished second, while Jacob Cieslewicz took third.
Ashley Schmittzehe won the women's race in 23:19.36.
