The Southeast Missouri Cobras 16-under baseball team won the Missouri/Illinois 18-under Bi-State tournament Sunday at Lake St. Louis with a pair of comeback victories.
The Cobras (6-0) defeated the St. Louis Jays 7-6 in the championship game.
Kyle Harris had two doubles for the Cobras, who also got two hits from both Brad Potts and Travis Phillips.
Potts had two RBIs, including the game-winner in the final inning.
Trey Tigart, who had two victories in relief Sunday, pitched the final inning.
The Cobras advanced to the title game with a 6-5 win against the Jacksonville Heat.
Ryan Fortner, Cambron Womack and Phillips all had two hits apiece. James Dickerson and Tyler Anderson both had RBI triples.
Tigart pitched the final 1 1/3 innings for the win.
Asia Thomas, a recent graduate of Central, was a member of two winning relays that broke meet records at the Great Southwest Classic Track and Field Classic in Albuquerque, N.M., this past weekend.
Thomas, who won the Missouri Class 4 championship in the 400 meters as a junior, ran the second leg in the 1,600 relay to help set a meet record with fellow Missouri runners Samantha Levin, Kendra White and Montenae Speight. The foursome clocked 3 minutes, 37.6 seconds, which bettered the four-year-old record by more than 3 seconds.
Thomas also ran the second leg on the 800-meter relay that won in 1:35.39, which was more than 1 second faster than the meet record set in 2010. The other relay members were Tiana Valentine, Peyton Chaney and Ayesha Ewing.
Scott City junior Brandon Shemonia finished sixth in the 2,000 steeplechase with a time of 6:36.88.
Bob Burnett and Lachelle Cook captured first place in the SEMO Horseshoe Association's 12-team tournament at the Leopold Knights of Columbus.
The team of Brad Richardson and Amy Pobst took second, while Edgar Stoverink and Melody Williams were third.
The next tournament is scheduled for Saturday at the Backyard Club.
The team of Matt Vancil, Michael Williams, Kyle Christian and Dax Demaree shot a 56 to win the championship flight in a scorecard playoff at the Rotary Scholarship golf tournament at Dalhousie Golf Club.
The team of Brandon Harbison, Cord McLerron, Gary Elders and Dan Hutchison took second, while the team of Jim Meese, Denny Payne, Jim Laurentius and Hugh Bissell carded a 59 for third.
The team of Rick Kennard, Jim Horrell, Glen Cook and Jack DeVore shot a 65 to win A flight in a scorecard playoff.
The team of Ben Goodyear, Cord Polen and Larry Uelsmann finished second with a 65, while Clay Turner, Travis Turner, Nick Bollinger and Harley Edelmann shot a 67 for third.
Jackson's Billy Birk scored his second career ace on hole No. 4 at Kimbeland Country Club.
The hole was playing 115 yards, and Birk used a 9-iron.
Jim Thompson and Larry Cunningham witnessed the shot.
Jackson junior Clay Baker has been selected to play for Team Missouri in the Junior Sunbelt Classic baseball tournament in Oklahoma starting Friday.
Baker, who batted .435 in 13 games for the Indians this season, is the lone player from Southeast Missouri on the team.
The tournament features teams from Arizona, Canada, Colorado, Georgia, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Texas and Tennessee and runs from Friday to June 15 in McAlester, Okla.
