Slaten shoots 72 for victory
Brett Slaten, who committed to play golf at Shawnee Community College in Ullin, Ill., shot a 72 to win the boys 16 to 19 18-hole tour division at the PGA Gateway Junior Series event held at Cape Girardeau Country Club on Monday.
Alex Reid took second (75).

Bean, Massa team for horseshoe win
The team of Joe Bean and Mike Massa took first place at the Southeast Missouri Horseshoe Association's tournament at the Jackson Knights of Columbus.
The team of Lachelle Cook and Randy Senciboy was second, while Cori Stoverink and John Keller were third.
Carolyn Schreckenberg and Ron LeGrand teamed for victory at the Oran Jaycees tournament.
Cook and John Vandeven finished second, while Terrie Rose and Keller were third.
Cook scores hole in one
Jackson's Ron Cook used an 8-iron to score an ace on hole No. 6 at Kimbeland Country Club.
The hole was playing 140 yards.
Dennis Underwood witnessed the shot.
Jackson Junior Legion sweeps Sikeston
The Jackson Junior American Legion baseball team's offense erupted for 26 runs in a doubleheader sweep Monday at Sikeston.
Logan Bartels earned the win in the opener, a 16-0 victory for Jackson.
Robert Brown went 2-for-3 with a homer, while Dylan Koehler went 2-for-2 in the win.
Jackson won the second game 10-4, with Koehler earning the win.
Mason Sander went 3-for-5 for Jackson (27-2).
