The Cape Girardeau Ford & Sons Post 63 American Legion baseball team won a pair of games Saturday in Paducah, Ky.
Cape first defeated Metropolis (Ill.) 14-4 in five innings, then posted a 7-6 victory against Paducah.
Josh Meyer allowed four hits and one earned run in Cape's rout of Metropolis.
Cody Livesay had two triples and a double in the win, while Josh Hiett had two hits and two RBIs. Cape had 10 hits overall.
Cape banged out 13 hits against Paducah. Jimmy Obermark went 3 for 4, including a pair of doubles. Livesay, Dustin Crowden and Austin Davis all had two hits apiece.
Logan Morris recorded the win, allowing eight hits in 6 2/3 innings. He struck out nine and walked one. Livesay obtained the final out with the potential tying and winning runs on base for the save.
Notre Dame Regional High School graduate Emily Matthews was named the Missouri State recipient of the Missouri Valley Conference State Farm Good Neighbor Award.
Matthews, a junior on the Bears golf team, finished with an 81.20 scoring average in four tournaments this past season. She boasts a 3.93 grade-point average while majoring in communication sciences and disorders.
To be eligible, an athlete must be in good academic standing, demonstrate good citizenship through good sportsmanship and significant community service and participate in a sport during the season of recognition.
Notre Dame Regional High School graduate Erika Reinagel received all-Midwest Region second-team honors in softball.
Reinagel batted .345 during her sophomore season at Central Methodist University. Reinagel, an outfielder who batted leadoff, scored a team-high 57 runs and stole a team-leading 22 bases.
The team of Matt Porch, Tim Porch, Jody Underwood and John Blattel combined to win A flight at the United Way's 24th annual golf tournament at Cape Girardeau Country Club.
The team of Thomas Meyer, Robin Cole, Clara Schafer and David Hopper finished second, while the team of Tom Higgins, Mike Stanbaugh, Ray Jones and Mike Wulfers was third.
The team of Dan Swatzell, Jerry Swatzell, Brian Gerau and Rick Brockett won B flight. The team of Bob Wright, Stan Essner, Mike Kirby and Ed Vandeven took second, while the team of Dan Driskell, Gerry Driskell, Dan Seib, Susie Seib was third.
The team of John Brady, Hugh Freeze, Fred Steward and Bob Clark won the four-man shootout at the three-day Gentlemen's Invitational at Dalhousie Golf Club.
The foursome, which finished first and second among the two-man teams in the Royal Troon flight, defeated the first- and second-place teams from the seven other flights in a five-hole alternate shot format.
The eight flight winners: Ken Swinford and Terry Hill (St. Andrews), Mark Hogan and Kent Phillips (Carnoustie), John Morlan and Greg Graves (Prestwick), Ray Laidet and George Vournas (Muirfield), Rob Erlbacher and Tim Metheny (Turnberry), Brady and Freeze (Royal Troon), Jim Rust and Ryan LeGrand (Royal Birkdale), and Aaron Dombrowski and Jim Sinnot (North Berwick).
Phil Beard recorded a hole-in-one in the tournament, using a 5-iron to ace No. 11, a 175-yard par 3.
