Teddy Bears win golf tournament

The Teddy Bears team prevailed in a putt-off during Saturday's Ladies Elvis Open golf tournament at Dalhousie Golf Club.

Ann Dombrowski, Becky Unger, Harriette Myers and Maradale Myers made up the winning group in the four-person scramble event. They combined to shoot a score of 70.

Also shooting 70 was the runner-up squad of Jennifer Coad, Bev Prater, Terri Parmly and Eileen Owens.

Finishing third, with a score of 72, was the group of Carol Largent, Claudia Witte, Alice Temm and Barb Stribling.

Closest to the pin winners were Coad (No. 5), Dombrowski (No. 8), Temm (No. 11) and Owens (No. 13).

Local drivers settle for runner-up showings

Gibby Yates of Marble Hill and Taylor Bowman of Cape Girardeau were second-place finishers on the weekend of May 14 at the Sikeston Drag Strip.

Yates was second in the ET class with an average speed of 84.92 mph in an elapsed time of 7.882 (7.80 dial-in) and a reaction time of .590. Jeff Bowman of Festus was the winner with an average speed of 99.16 mph, an elapsed time of 6.431 (6.38 dial-in) and a reaction time of .536.

Bowman finished second in the Junior Drag, averaging 83.48 mph with an elapsed time of 7.662 (7.67 dial-in) and a reaction time of .518. Mike Crader of O'Fallon placed first with a speed of 59.51 mph in an elapsed time of 10.510 (10.44 dial-in) and a reaction time of .511.

Southeast summer camps scheduled

Southeast Missouri State's summer camps begin soon, with sessions for men's basketball, women's basketball, football, soccer, volleyball and track. The camps have varying prices.

Men's basketball will have four sessions. An individual camp for ages 9 to 18 is June 5 to 8, a day camp for grades 1 through 9 is July 5 to 7, a team camp for varsity and junior varsity teams is June 19 to 21, a team camp for grades 7 through 9 teams is July 10 to 12 and another team camp for varsity and JV teams is July 19 to 21. Women's basketball will have four sessions. A skill camp for grades 3 to 10 is June 2 to 5, an elite camp for grades 8 to 12 is June 12 to 14, and two team camps for varsity, JV and junior high teams are June 8 to 10 and July 13 to 15.
