Scott places fifth at Paralympic Games

Cape Girardeau native Susan Beth Scott placed fifth in her first event at the 2012 Paralympic Games in London.

Scott swam a personal-best 28.92 seconds in the 50-meter freestyle Friday.

Scott's next individual event is the 100 backstroke Tuesday. She may compete in the 400 freestyle relay Monday.

Vandeven cards ace at Kimbeland C.C.

Dana Vandeven of Leopold, Mo., recently fired her first career hole-in-one at Kimbeland Country Club.

Vandeven used a pitching wedge to ace No. 12, a par 3 playing 77 yards.

JoAnn Arnzen and Linda Horrell witnessed the shot.

Edna Estes and Marilyn Turner won the play of the day at the Chip-A-Ways competition held at Perryville Country Club last week.

The front-nine winner was the team of Christie Lind and Linda Williams. Sharon Dow and Deanna Peterman placed second. The back-nine winner was the team of Jan Weinhold, Debbie Gahan, Vickie Howard and Dottie Gill. Sharon Dow, Deanna Peterman, Doris Breymeyer and Shirley Meyer finished second.

Mapes earns medalist at WGA competition

Beth Mapes was the medalist at the Women's Golf Association event at Cape Girardeau Country Club last week.

Janet White won the 18-hole play of the day (most 5s). Linda Tewis was second, while Luanne Kiefner and Marlena Jones tied for third. Pat Strom was the nine-hole winner.

Largent, Blanton win best ball, scramble

Carol Largent and Patsy Blanton won two of the three formats at the Ladies Guest Day event at Dalhousie Golf Club.

Largent and Blanton won the six-hole best ball portion and the six-hole scramble portion. Ann Dombrowski and Becky Unger won the six-hole alternate shot.
