Cherokees edge Cape Junior Legion
Jake Pewitt and Wes Glaus both went 2-for-3 to lead the Cape County Cherokees to a 9-6 victory over the Ford and Sons Cape Girardeau Post 63 Junior American Legion baseball team Tuesday.
Zach McDowell earned the win, while Josh Meyer suffered the loss.
Jamie Pickel went 3-for-4 with two RBIs, while Jacob Conklin went 2-for-4 with a double and triple for Cape (9-4).
Little team wins title
The team of Will Little, Matthew Vancil, Michael Williams and Kyle Christian shot a 55 to win the afternoon championship flight at the Cape West Rotary golf tournament at Dalhousie Golf Club.
The team of Hugh Bissell, Dennis Payne, Jim Laurentius and Jim Kenley took second with a 60.
In the afternoon A flight, Carolyn Torbert, Troy Ward, Jerry Bushelman and Darrell Moran won with a 66. The team of Mike Delgado, Matt Gaeta, Mike Griffin and Ray Sullivan was second with a 66.
In the afternoon B flight, the team of Steve Bjelich, Dennis Marchi, Moe Sandfort and Kevin Govero was first with a 71. The team of Ron Hahs, John Koch, Kristen Howard and Ted Powers was second with a 71.
In the morning championship flight, the team of Brandon Harrison, Dan Hutchison, Cord McLaurin and Ed O'Reilly won with a 60. The team of Matt Porch, Jody Underwood, Randall Kight and Tim Porch took second with a 61.
In the morning A flight, the team of Danny Hill, Greg Kennard, Shane Glover and Miko Roberts won with a 69. The team of Ken Dobbins, Earl Hollard, Todd Pennington and Paul Dobbins was second with a 69.
Knudtson scores hole in one
Gunnar Knudtson recorded a hole in one on hole No. 3 at the Cape Jaycee Municipal Golf Course.
He used a 6-iron on the 157-yard hole.
