Cape Junior Legion splits pair

The Cape Girardeau Plaza Tire Post 63 Junior American Legion baseball team split a Saturday doubleheader at Poplar Bluff, winning 14-3 and losing 8-7.

Andrew Williams was the winning pitcher in the opener for Cape, which saw its record move to 5-2.

Eric Allen homered, tripled and had seven RBIs in the two games.

Meyer team wins tournament

The team of Thomas Meyer, David Hopper and Rocky, whose last name was not provided, won the United Way of Southeast Missouri's golf tournament Friday.

The team of Joe McLemore, Bill Tegal, Dan Adkinson and Ryan Smith took second, while the team of Jeff Miller, Matt Miller, Carl Froemsdorf and Chuck Miller finished third.
