Weissmuellers earn postseason honors
Alana Weissmueller, a Notre Dame alumnae, was named to the NCAA Division III softball Rock Island regional all-tournament team.
Weissmueller, a sophomore at Maryville University, batted .231 with three hits, including a double, and an RBI. She also was named to the All-St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference first team.
Laura Weissmueller, a senior at Maryville, was named to the All-SLIAC second team.
Oran alum to participate in homer contest
Joe Bickings, an Oran alumnus, will compete in the DeMarini National Longball Challenge in Fort Myers, Fla., this weekend. He played for the Missouri State club team.
Critchlow earns academic honor
Austin Critchlow, a Notre Dame alumnus, earned a spot on the Atlantic 10 Conference academic all-conference track and field team.
Critchlow, a junior at Saint Louis University, finished second in the 800 meters at the conference meet. He set a school record, covering the distance in 1 minute, 52.89 seconds.
Groves sets Kansas State hammer throw record
Scott City alumnae Loren Groves, a junior on the Kansas State track and field team, recently set a school record in the hammer throw with a distance of 214 feet, 5 inches.
Groves, a two-time All-American in the indoor weight throw, is ranked fifth among collegiate hammer throwers while being ranked in the top 15 in the U.S. among all throwers.
Groves is ranked 17th nationally in discus with a throw of 173-8, which is fourth all-time at Kansas State.
On Friday, Groves won the hammer throw at the Big 12 Conference outdoor meet.
