Sams captures first in 5K race

Adela Sams took first place in the Southeast Missouri Hospital 2007 Women's Distance Festival 5-kilometer race Saturday at the SEMO District Fairgrounds.

She covered the course in 21 minutes, 12 seconds.

Sarah Mittrucker took first in the 1-mile run, finishing in 8:31.

Joyce Hunter won the 5K walk with a time of 35:57.

Lachelle Cook and Matt Miller captured first place in the Southeast Missouri Horseshoe Association event last weekend at the Benton Neighbor Day in Benton, Mo.

Jeff Miller and Glen Backfisch placed second, and Jake Kluesner and Marvin Margrabe finished third.
