Southeast soccer beats Tech 2-1
Southeast Missouri State University's women's soccer team closed out its regular season Friday night by beating visiting Tennessee Tech 2-1 in front of nearly 200 fans at Houck Stadium.
The Otahkians (9-5-4, 4-3-1) finished in fifth place in the Ohio Valley Conference and will visit fourth-place Tennessee-Martin Tuesday for an OVC Tournament play-in game. The winner advances to Friday's tournament semifinals in Birmingham, Ala. Samford will be the host.
After a scoreless halftime tie, the Otahkians got the first two goals of the second half in the opening 20 minutes. Valerie Henderson scored with an assist from Mary Kalinowski and Erin Slattery found the net with an assist from Marla Gianino.
Tech's Rachel Hayward scored with about 15 minutes left but the Eaglettes could not get a tying goal.
Southeast held a commanding 27-4 edge in shots, including 17 shots on goal.
St. Vincent rolls past Chaffee 48-0
St. Vincent moved within one victory of a Class 1, District 1 title by routing host Chaffee 48-0 Friday night in high school football action.
The Indians led 35-0 at halftime as they improved to 6-3 overall and 2-0 in district play. Chaffee fell to 0-9 and 0-2.
St. Vincent had 366 yards of offense -- including 263 rushing -- and held Chaffee to 65 total yards.
Anthony Brown rushed for three touchdowns and gained 111 yards on 11 carries.
Quarterback Chad Lane hit Joey Guilliams and Danny Rellergert with TD passes of more than 50 yards while Chris Kline and Jonathon Buehler added rushing scores.
Cape woman nets first hole-in-one
Vicki Raines of Cape Girardeau shot her first hole in one recently as she aced the No. 12 hole at the Jaycee Municipal Golf Course in Cape Girardeau.
