Ford & Sons falls at tournament in Paducah
The Cape Girardeau Ford & Sons American Legion baseball team fell to Gallatin 8-5 at the Paducah tournament Friday.
Cape collected eight hits but no player had more than one. Blake Slattery belted a grand slam in the fifth inning to lead Cape's offensive attack. Zach Plott also knocked in a run.
Garrett Stevens allowed seven runs, four earned, in four innings to suffer the loss.
Cape suffers first loss in state tourney
The Cape Girardeau Senior Babe Ruth baseball team was sent into the losers bracket of the state tournament Friday with a 5-0 loss to host Charleston.
Kelly graduate Dallas Tew held Cape to three hits as he pitched Charleston into today's winners bracket semifinals. He walked two and struck out five.
Losing pitcher Justin Myers allowed five hits and four runs in 5 1/3 innings.
Abe Dirnberger, Blake Gaddis and Brett Heischmidt accounted for Cape's hits.
Cape (15-9) faced Northeast Missouri in an elimination game late Friday night. Results were not available.
