United Way tournamentcrowns scramble champs
The team of Keith Holloway, Brian Stevens, Kurt May, and Jim Hobbs took first place at the 20th annual United Way Charity Golf tournament Friday at the Cape Girardeau Country Club. The tournament used a scramble format.
The team of John McLemore, Clarence Ackman, Brad Figliolo and Bill Tegal was second while Pee Wee Bartels, David Shell, Jim Doby and David Kirk teamed up for third place.
Mike Grunloh had the men's longest drive, Karen Rigdon had the women's longest drive, Randy Howard and Nick Hogan tied for the longest putt and Jamie Burger was closest to the line.
David Kirk (two holes), Sam Roethemeyer, Chuck Bradford, John Thompson and Brian Stevens were closest to the pin winners.
Scott County drops season opener
The Scott County American Legion baseball team debuted with a 10-4 loss to KenTen Express in the round-robin portion of the Dyersburg (Tenn.) tournament Friday.
Trenton Moses, who had two doubles, and Cody Carlyle each went 2-for-3 for Scott County, which had seven hits overall.
Andy Stephens suffered the loss on the mound. Stephens allowed four hits and five earned runs in 4 2/3 innings. He struck out seven and walked three.
Ford and Sons beats Mountain Home
The Ford and Sons Post 63 American Legion team pounded out eight hits as it beat Mountain Home 10-3 in the Dyersburg (Tenn.) tournament Friday.
Ford shortstop Blake Slattery went 4-for-5 with 3 RBIs and scored four runs.
Ford pitcher Brad LaBruyere threw all seven innings, allowing six hits and two earned runs. He struck out four.
Cardinals make move to high definition
Charter Communications announced that beginning June 16 it will provide St. Louis Cardinals baseball games on Fox Sports Midwest in an HDTV format.
Charter will also simulcast KBSI-TV, the local FOX affiliate, in a high definition format.
These options for watching the Cardinals in high definition will be available to Charter customers in the HDTV programming tier.
