Vieira breaks two records

Gabriela Vieira broke conference records in the girls 13 and 14 division while competing for the Gator Swim Team at the Ozark championship meet at Southern Illinois-Carbondale's Shea Natatorium.

Vieira's 100-yard butterfly time of 54.64 seconds and 100 backstroke time of 56.01 also broke the pool records and qualified her for the USA Swimming's Senior National Championships next year.

Vieira's 100 butterfly time is the 20th fastest all-time for her division, according to USA Swimming's all-time top 100 age group times.

Vieira also broke the team's 100 freestyle (51.62) record as well as her own records in the 200 freestyle (1:51.23), 100 backstroke (56.01), 400 individual medley (4:30.11) and 100 backstroke (56.01). She set Open records in the 100 butterfly (54.64) and 200 butterfly (2:04.14).

Brogan Davis bettered his 11 and 12 boys division team records in the 50 backstroke (29.07) and 100 backstroke (1:01.62).

Firsts -- Brogan Davis (100 individual medley, 50 backstroke, 50 freestyle); Phoebe Law (50 freestyle); Gabriela Vieira (100 backstroke, 100 butterfly, 200 butterfly, 200 freestyle, 400 individual medley)

Thirds -- Jacob Bening (50 backstroke); Caitlyn Palmer (50 freestyle); Helen Wojdylo (100 breaststroke, 200 breaststroke)

Borgfields, Rapp win state titles

Tim Borgfield of Jackson won the 125cc expert class Missouri Vintage Motocross state title.

The series consisted of nine rounds.

Reed Borgfield of Jackson won the youth 7 to 10 division state title, while Todd Rapp of Jackson won the 100cc novice class title.

Jordan Rapp of Jackson finished third in the youth 7 to 10 division.
