Southeast men third, women fourth at MU

COLUMBIA, Mo. -- Chad Sierman finished 15th and Kaci Pilcher ninth to lead Southeast Missouri State University at the Missouri Invitational on Saturday, the season-opening event for both the men's and women's cross country teams.

Brian Whitehead was 19th to help Southeast's men's team take third. Sophomore Gabe Lutes (21st), freshman Brad DeMattei (24th) and freshman Kirk Nesbitt (28th) rounded out the Indians' top five men.

The Otahkians finished fourth behind Pilcher's ninth place and Kris Woolf's 18th place. Colleen Burk (20th), Brooke Woodruff (24th) and Jenny Burke (26th) rounded out the Otahkians' top finishers.

Southeast volleyball team remains winless

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Southeast Missouri State University's volleyball team dropped to 0-6 with a four-game loss to Indiana University on Saturday at the Indiana tournament.

The Otahkians won the first game 32-30 before dropping the next three. Emily Scannell, Suzanne Gundlach and Sarah Frost had nine kills apiece for Southeast. Scannell led Southeast in assists with 32. Gundlach had 23 digs in the match, and Jill Miller added 18.

Jackson sisters Andrea Koeper and Jessica Koeper combined for three kills.

Area golfers fare well in Fredericktown event

Peggy Fee, Betty Belote, Harriet Drusch and Margaret Sanders of Cape Girardeau combined to win the championship flight in Fredericktown Country Club's annual four-person women's scramble Thursday.

Fee also won closest to the pin on No. 9
