Mud races today benefit Gordonville fire dept.

The Gordonville Fire Protection District Booster Club will sponsor mud racing today at the Gordonville City Park.

ATV racing begins at 10:30 a.m. with truck racing at 1 p.m. Gates open at 8. Tents will be provided for shade, but spectators are encouraged to bring lawn chairs.

Stock, super stock and modified classes will compete in four-wheel ATVs and four-wheel-drive trucks. No late entries are allowed.

Food and beverages will be available along with a 50-50 drawing, children's play area and a sound system. No coolers will be allowed.

Scott Co. all-star team heads to regional event

The Scott County Red Sox, an 11- to 12-year-old all-star team based in Benton, Mo., won the state LittleLeague championship for its age group last week in Macon.

The team will play for a regional title starting today in Lamar, Colo. The Red Sox play at noon against the Nebraska state champions.

"It's a dream come true for these kids,"coach Danny Dumey said. "It's quite an honor."

The team began its title run with a 9-2 defeat of Boonville in the state tournament opener, then defeated Washington 13-3, Sikeston 6-5 and Mineral Area 9-2. Mineral Area was the defending state champion.

Scott County is 11-0 since the team formed in the postseason. The team has players from Benton, Oran andBell City.
