Heartland Nationals team reaches national event
BURLINGTON, Colo. -- The Heartland Nationals 14-and-under softball team won the Midwest regional with a 6-5 defeat of Southeast Denver on Sunday.
The win puts Heartland National in the national tournament for Babe Ruth softball teams. The event will be in Chaffee from Aug. 13 to 17.
Heartland National scored its winning run in the bottom of the seventh to win and improved to 10-0 as an all-star team from the Heartland Babe Ruth League.
Courtney Walter pitched 2 1/3 innings and gave up a hit and walked three in the win. She gave up no earned runs. Chelsea Bradley had two hits and two RBIs, and Rachel Hendrix had a double and two RBIs.
Elfrink, Leasch win in Jackson horseshoe event
Tyler Elfrink and Don Leasch teamed to win the Southeast Missouri Horseshoe Association event Sunday at the Jackson Knights of Columbus Hall.
Ron LeGrand and Charlie Urhahn were second, and Terri Rose and Bob Piper were third.
