Golf

* Legion tournament: The Jackson American Legion baseball's fourth annual golf classic will take place Sept. 25 at Bent Creek Golf Club. The four-person scramble will start at 1 p.m., with lunch served at noon. Cost: $75 per person. Info: 979-0286 or 243-4199.

Softball

* Traveling tryouts: The Muddy Otters 12-and-younger fast-pitch softball team will hold tryouts 1 to 3 p.m. Sept. 13 at the Jackson field. The team is open to girls who will be 12 years old or younger Jan. 1, 2010. Info: Preston Scott, 579-9110.

* Alumni tournament: The Scott City Park Board will host its annual softball tournament Sept. 19 and 20. Teams can pick up their rosters at city hall, the park office or Holder's Machine Shop. Deadline: Sept. 14. Info: park office, 264-2322.

Tennis

* Social doubles: Doubles players are invited to play socially Saturday mornings at the Southeast Missouri State University tennis facility. Play begins at 9 a.m. There is no cost and players of all abilities are invited.

Triathlon

* Trail of Tears triathlon: The Trail of Tears triathlon is scheduled for Sept. 12 at Trail of Tears State Park. The course consists of a half-mile swim, 15-mile bike ride and 4-mile run. The race begins at 9 a.m. Cost: $45 for individuals and $50 for teams. Non-USAT members must buy a one-day membership for $10. Info or to register: active.com.
