Baseball

* Jackson Legion tryouts: Tryouts for the Jackson American Legion baseball team will take place today at Jackson American Legion field. Freshmen will try out at 1 p.m., junior Legion tryouts will be at 3:30 p.m. and the senior Legion tryouts will be at 5:30 p.m. Tryouts will be at the Jackson Junior High in case of inclement weather. Basketball

* Southeast boys camps: The Southeast Missouri State men's basketball program, under new coach Dickey Nutt, will hold several camps this summer. A team camp for club teams, varsity, junior varsity and junior high school teams will be June 5 and 6. An individual camp for players ages 11 through 18 will be June 7 to 10. An individual half-day camp for players ages 4 through 10 will be June 8 to 10 (all sons or grandsons of past and present Southeast men's basketball season ticket holders can attend this camp free of charge). * Southeast girls camps: The Southeast Missouri State women's basketball program, under coach John Ishee, will hold several camps this summer. An individual skills camp for players entering grades 3 through 12 will be June 1 to 4. A team camp for club teams, varsity, junior varsity and junior high school teams will be June 12 and 13. * Summer boys league: The Cape Girardeau Parks and Recreation Department will sponsor its annual junior high and high school summer boys basketball league for students entering grades 7 through 12. League play is scheduled to begin June 2 at the Osage Community Centre and A.C. Brase Arena. Games will be played Tuesday evenings. Registration fee is $225 per team. * Jackson camps: Jackson will host boys basketball camps at the high school. An individual skills camp for players in grades 3 through 7 will be June 29 to July 2 from 9 a.m. to noon. Cost: $50 if preregistered; $55 at the door. A shooting camp for players in grades 3 through 7 will be July 13 to 16 from 9 a.m. to noon. Cost: $50 if preregistered; $55 at the door. A little dribblers camp for players in grades kindergarten through 2 will be Aug. 3 to 6 from 5 to 7 p.m. Cost: $40 if preregistered, $45 at the door. Individual workouts also will be available with the Jackson coaching staff and focus on shooting fundamentals, post moves and ball handling. Football

* Southeast camps: The Southeast Missouri State football program, under coach Tony Samuel, will hold two camps June 27 for high school players. There will be a 7-on-7 tournament for quarterbacks, wide receivers, running backs, tight ends, safeties, cornerbacks and linebackers. The cost per team is $200 and each team is guaranteed five games. Golf

* PGA tournament trip: The Cape Girardeau Parks and Recreation Department will sponsor a trip to Memphis, Tenn., for the final day, June 14, of the Stanford St. Jude Championship at the TPC Southwind. The bus will leave the Osage Community Centre at 6 a.m. Cost: $60, which includes a one-day admission to the tournament and transportation to and from the course on a charter bus. Info: 339-6340.

* Southeast football tournament: The annual TEAM (Together Everyone Achieves More) Southeast football golf tournament will take place June 15 at Kimbeland Country Club in Jackson. The four-person scramble is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m., with registration at 11:30 a.m. and lunch served at noon. Players who don't have a team lined up can be assigned to one. * Lutheran Family scramble: The Lutheran Family and Children's Services will host the Hope for Families golf tournament Monday at Dalhousie Golf Club. The tournament is a four-person scramble and will have morning (8 a.m.) and afternoon (1:30 p.m.) tee times. Cost: $110 morning, $135 afternoon, which includes greens fees, cart and lunch. * United Way tournament: The United Way of Southeast Missouri will hold its 22nd annual golf tournament June 12 at the Cape Girardeau Country Club. The four-person scramble will get under way at noon. Cost: $100, which includes greens fees, cart, lunch and prizes. Info: Holly Lintner, 334-9634.

* Couples tournament: The Cape Girardeau Country Club will host the Couples Classic on May 30 and 31. Couples will have their choice of a shotgun start at either 8 a.m. or 1:30 p.m. May 30, with tee times for May 31 determined by the pro shop. * Jaycees tournament: The Cape Girardeau Jaycees will host the 21st annual Cape Jaycees two-man golf scramble May 30 and 31 at the Jaycee Municipal Golf Course. Tee times are available at 7:30 a.m. or 1 p.m. May 30, and tee times for May 31 will be determined by flight. Cost: $160 per team with cart rental or $140 per team without a cart. * Splash and dash: There will be a swim/run event June 14 that begins at the Central Municipal Pool. Distances are determined by age -- adults: 500-yard swim, 2-mile run; 7- and 8-year olds: 50-meter swim, 1-mile run; 9- and 10-year olds: 100-meter swim, 1-mile run; 13- to 15-year olds: 200-meter swim, 1-mile run. * Mother's Day run canceled: The Mother's Day 2-mile run today at the visitors center at Trail of Tears State Park has been canceled.

Soccer

* Jackson girls tournament: The Jackson youth softball league will host the Jackson Memorial Day five-game blowout tournament at Jackson City Park on May 22 to 24. The Class B tournament will have the following divisions -- 10-and-under, 12-and-under, 14-and-under, 16-and-under and 18-and-under. Each team is guaranteed five games. Cost: $300 per team. Tennis

* CATA meeting: The Cape Area Tennis Association will hold its annual meeting from 6 to 8 p.m. May 27 at Class Act Family Fitness Center in Jackson. The meeting is open to tennis players in the area, and the agenda is a pizza party and social tennis event. Cost: $5. Reservations: 332-1614.

* Free juniors clinics: The Cape Area Tennis Association will hold free clinics at the Southeast Missouri State University tennis facility May 30. * Social doubles: Doubles players are invited to play socially Saturday mornings at the Southeast Missouri State University tennis facility. Play begins June 6 at 9 a.m. There is no cost and players of all abilities are invited.

Track and field

* Hershey's meet: The Cape Girardeau Parks and Recreation Department will host the 20th annual Hershey's track and field meet at the Central Junior High track May 21. Registration will be from 3:30 to 4:15 p.m., with events beginning at 5 p.m. The meet is open to boys and girls ages 9 to 14 in Southeast Missouri. * National Running Day: The Cape Girardeau Parks and Recreation Department will host a staff-led walk/run June 3 at 6:30 p.m. on the Cape LaCroix Trail at the Osage Community Centre. Volleyball

* Southeast camps: The Southeast Missouri State volleyball program, under coach Renata Nowacki, will hold several camps this summer. A skills camp for girls entering grades 9 through 12 will be June 5 to 7. A skills camp for girls entering grades 4 through 8 will be June 8 to 10. A one-day intro to volleyball camp for girls ages 8 through 12 will be June 12. A skills camp open to all ages will be June 13 and 14. A one-day hitters camp open to all ages will be June 20.
