  • Hot shot contest: The Scott City Park Department will host its sixth annual hot shot contest for boys and girls Feb. 21 at 1 p.m. at the Assembly of God gymnasium.   • Polar plunge: The Special Olympics of Southeast Missouri will host the third annual Polar Bear Plunge at Lake Boutin on Saturday. It is open to anyone 10 years old or older. Each participant must raise at least $50 to participate, which gets the participant into the post plunge party. Guest admission to the party is $5. Registration begins at noon and the plunge begins at 2 p.m. Participants cannot wear wetsuits and must wear shoes. Info: Penny Williams, 334-2859.

Running

  • Presidents Day 5K: The Allen Laws Oliver Chapter of the Missouri Society of the National Society Sons of the American Revolution will hold its Presidents Day 5-kilometer run Feb. 14 at the Red Star Baptist Church in Cape Girardeau. Registration is from 7:15 to 7:45 a.m., with the race scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. Cost: $12 by Feb. 13, $15 on race day. Info: 576-6880.
  • Super Kids Race Day: The Cape Girardeau Parks and Recreation Department will host the Super Kids Race Day on Feb. 15 at the Southeast Missouri State University Recreation Center at 12:45 p.m. It is open to children from crawlers to 15 years old. There will be an open 1-mile race for all ages, including adults. Children 2 and under will race together, while children 3 and older will run separately.   • Mardi Gras 5K: The Notre Dame FCCLA will host a Mardi Gras 5-kilometer walk/run Feb. 21 at the St. Vincent DePaul Center, with proceeds going to breast cancer research in memory of Jean Hermsdorfer. Registration will be from 7:15 to 7:45 a.m., with the race starting at 8 a.m. There also will be a 1-mile fun run for children 12 and younger. Cost: $12 by Feb. 18; $15 after.   • Southeast clinic: The Southeast Missouri State softball program will host a winter clinic concentrating on pitching, hitting and catching at Houck Field House. It is designed for girls ages 8 through 18. It will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Cost: $60. Campers must bring their own workout gear. No cleats are permitted inside Houck Field House. Tennis

  • Juniors tournament: The Jammin Juniors indoor tournament will take place Feb. 14 and 15 at the Class Act Family Fitness Center in Jackson. There will be singles and doubles for boys and girls in categories to age 18. Deadline: Wednesday. Cost: $20 for singles, $15 for doubles, with T-shirt and balls provided.
