Baseball

* Youth sign-ups: The Cape Youth Baseball League will hold sign-ups for players ages 5 to 15. Nearly Perfect Shoes will host sign-ups from noon to 3 p.m. Feb. 20 and from 1 to 3 p.m. Feb. 28. Info: Percy Huston, 278-6763.

Basketball

* Free-throw contest: The Jackson Knights of Columbus will host a free-throw competition for boys and girls ages 10 to 14 at Immaculate Conception gym. The competition will begin at 1 p.m. Feb. 7. Participants must provide proof of age. Info or entry forms: Ken Hotop: 243-1000.

Miscellaneous

* Capahas auction: The annual Plaza Tire Capahas auction will be April 10 at the American Legion Hall on Thomas Drive in Cape Girardeau. Doors open at 8:30 a.m., with the auction beginning at 9 a.m. A wide variety of items will be auctioned off, with proceeds benefiting the Capahas, among the nation's oldest amateur baseball teams. Running

* Grand opening run: The Ghisallo Running's grand opening 5K and 1-mile fun run will take place at 8 a.m. Feb. 28 at Arena Park. All participants receive a $20 Ghisallo Running gift card. Cost: $25 or $35 on race day. Info or to register: www.splitmastertiming.com.

Softball

* Southeast winter clinics: The Southeast Missouri State softball program will hold its annual winter clinics for girls ages 8 through 18 at Houck Field House. The Southeast coaching staff and team members will instruct. A session covering short game/hitting and sliding/baserunning will be Feb. 6 and 7 from 9 a.m. to noon daily. Cost is $60. Wrestling

* Optimist league: The Jackson boys Optimist Wrestling Little League will hold sign-ups for boys in grades kindergarten through 6 at the Jackson High School multipurpose gym. Registration will be held from 5:30 to 7 p.m. today and 9:30 to 11 a.m. Saturday. The league will run from Feb. 22 to March 24 with a tournament March 25 to 27. Cost: $40. Info: Matt Wendel, 204-1179.
