CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. — The track was scorching and the competition was fierce as area high school athletes gathered to compete at the 2023 SEMO Conference Meet at Notre Dame Regional High School on Saturday, April 29.

The boys and girls from Jackson won the North Division with team scores of 120 and 104, respectively.

The Sikeston boys placed fifth with 26 points. Jase Riddle was the Bulldogs' lone individual winner after winning the javelin with a throw of 42.28-meters.

The Lady Bulldogs finished fourth with 61 points. Kirsten Fairhurst won the 100 hurdles and set a personal record with a time of 16.46 seconds, and also claimed gold in the long jump with a leap of 5.55.

JaNaye Moore won the 300 hurdles with a time of 51.05 and Brionna Williams won the high jump with a leap of 5-0.

Dexter’s boys and girls teams won the South Division with team scores of 175 and 165, respectively.

New Madrid County Central’s boys' team finished third with a team score of 103.

Evan McClellan won the 110 hurdles in 17.13 and 300 hurdles in 43.88 (PR) while Ja’Kwon Jones won the long jump and high jump with leaps of 6.74 and 5-10 (PR), respectively.

NMCC’s girls placed sixth with a score of 23.

Woodland’s boys (121) and Malden’s girls (149) won the East Division.

Charleston’s boys finished second with a score of 114 and with several individual winners. Bernard Betts won the 100 with a time of 11.35, DJ Williams won the 200 in 22.54 and the 400 in 50.76 (PR), and Charles David won the discus with a toss of 33.53.

The Bluejays also stood atop the podium after winning the 400 and 800 relays with times of 44.13 and 1:30.51, respectively. Members of the 400 relay team were Betts, Trey Stanback, Williams and Zecobyion Ewing, while the 800 included Ewing, Betts, Kamirion Wiley and Williams.

Stanback also won the high jump with a personal record of 6-2, and the triple jump with a leap of 12.55.

Kelly’s boys placed fourth with 36 points and East Prairie was fifth with 35 points.

Kelly’s Evan Shoaf won the 300 hurdles and set a personal record with a time of 45.95, and East Prairie’s Connor Marcum won the long jump with a leap of 6.36.

Kelly’s girls were second with 81.5 points. Blaire Riley won the javelin with a throw of 32.50.

The Lady Hawks 3,200 relay team claimed gold with a time of 13:18.07. The team members were Lena Figueroa, Morgan Merrick, Gwendolyn Essner and Sarah Thurmond.

Merrick also won the 1,600 and set a personal record with a time of 6:01.56.

Charleston’s girls were third with 64 points.

Claire Nichols won the discus with a throw of 30.56, and Treasure Kimble won the 300 hurdles and set a personal record with a time of 49.29

The Lady Bluejay team of D’Nyia Turner, Dymond Williams, Jada Jones and Kimble also won the 3,200 relay with a time of 4:40.88.

The East Prairie girls finished fifth with a team score of 25.5 and no individual winners.

The Scott City boys and girls won the West Division with a score of 173 and 130, respectively.

Scott County Central was sixth in the boys' divisions with a score of 39, and Oran finished eighth with a score of 33.

Oran’s Ryan Burke won the 800 and 1,600 with times of 2:11.74 (PR) and 5:05.43, respectively.

SCC placed fourth in the girls' division with a score of 63 and Oran was eighth with nine points.

SCC’s Alysa Adams won the high jump with a leap of 4-6.
