The Apple Creek Shooting Range's rifle and pistol range will be closed beginning Monday for major repairs to the shooting berms.
During the closure, the 50-yard berm will be refaced and the 100-yard berm reconstructed.
"The Apple Creek Shooting Range is the most highly used range in Southeast Missouri, and with more use, comes more wear and tear," said Dee Dee Dockins, outdoor skills specialist for the Missouri Conservation Department. "To perform repairs of the berm, we must completely shut down the rifle and pistol range. Hopefully, the weather will cooperate and we will be able to re-open the range ahead of schedule."
The Apple Creek Rifle and Pistol Range is expected to re-open no later than May 27.
The MDC encourages shooters to utilize the new facilities at Castor River Shooting Range, located off County Road 708 15 miles west of Marble Hill, Mo. Castor River Shooting range is open Wednesday through Monday -- closed Tuesdays -- with special hours are in effect starting April 18 through May 8, when the range will open at noon.
