SIKESTON — Scott County Central made a statement in the opening round of the MSHSAA Class 1, District 1 Tournament, rolling over Crossroads College Prep 74-8 on Monday, Feb. 19.

The Bravettes (11-14) controlled the game from start to finish, showcasing crisp passing, aggressive defense and a blistering offensive attack against the Current (2-14).

“I liked how pushed the pace and our ball movement,” said SCC junior Nikki Adams. “We played a smooth game, limited our turnovers and played almost completely mistake-free.”

Adams led the way for SCC with an impressive 30-point performance. Raegan Evans added 11 points, and seven other players chipped in offensively, highlighting the team's depth and balanced scoring.

“I’m really happy that we were able to come out with the win tonight,” said SCC senior Raegan Evans. “Running a lot in practice and getting in better shape helped us and led to a lot of easy baskets.

I’m glad we had a big win that will help us get even more hyped up for the next game because it's a big one.

Sarah Williams battled hard for CCP, scoring all eight of her team's points.

Up next, Scott County Central faces a significant challenge in the form of No. 2 ranked Delta.

“We have to come out different than we do against most teams,” Evans said. “They’re so fast and we know we’re going to have to play as hard as we can the entire game if we want to have a chance to keep up with them. We have to check the 3-pointers because everyone on their team can shoot. We just have to be calm and try to slow the game down.”

The Ladycats (25-1) are heavily favored, but the Bravettes have proven their ability to execute on both ends of the floor. An SCC upset may be a long shot, but in tournament play, anything is possible.
