Brush hog hazard
(Column ~ 08/14/21)
You gotta love the country life. It's not as boring as some might say. Even brush hogging has the potential to make an interesting memory. Every summer I do some brush hogging around my small property to keep the place looking halfway respectable. Because a doe whitetail deer hangs around and raises a fawn every year, I usually wait until around the last of July to brush hog. I don't want to run over a fawn, and I don't want to eliminate the safety of cover for a fawn...

(Column ~ 08/14/21)
Father Bill Kottenstette always told us to think of the person in the world who loves us best -- we could know from their visible love for us that God loves us at least that much and more and more perfectly, because God is God. The same, he said, is true for the person in the world we love best -- we know God loves us and them at least that much and more and more perfectly. ...

We have been discussing the armor of God for spiritual warfare in Ephesians chapter 6. The first three pieces of equipment we are to put on are the belt of truth, breastplate of righteousness, and shoes of the gospel of peace. The United Federal Administrative Units of America?
(Column ~ 08/14/21)
Warnings that state and local governments faced a fiscal calamity were predictably plentiful when it became clear in early 2020 that COVID-19 would cause major social and economic disruptions. Predictable because it has become gospel that the solution to an economic downturn is to have the federal government suck money out of the private sector, redistribute it to state and local governments minus a cut for all three levels of bureaucracy and then spend the remainder -- often wastefully -- according to political desires and special-interest dreams.. ...

Cancel culture and wokeness will destroy our country
(Column ~ 08/14/21)
The enabling tool of what we call "cancel culture" or "wokeness" is language. People are put in categories to which names are assigned, and this supposedly captures who they are and what should be done with them politically. Unfortunately, the whole business of racial identification and categorization is not about advancing the quality of the human condition and human dignity but about progressive politics...
