EX-BLUFF MERCHANT'S GENEROSITY RECALLED
(Obituary ~ 11/28/00)
POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. -- The highest compliment in Yiddish that one can give a person is to call him a mensch -- a real human being, a nice person. Wally Hartman, who died Sunday at the age 89, was a mensch. "He was a wonderful, great guy," said attorney Jasper Edmundson. "Everybody loved him. He was involved in a lot of things. The last two checks he wrote were to Haven House and the Rescue Mission. That shows a little bit about him."...

LETTERS: GORE REVEALS HIMSLEF IN HOW HE REJECTS DEFEAT
(Letter to the Editor ~ 11/28/00)
To the editor: On Nov. 8, the day after the general election, my wife and I were discussing the results. It seemed apparent at the time that George W. Bush had won the presidency in the closest contest in our nation's history. It would be understandable for the Democratic campaign to be deeply disappointed and frustrated. ...

LETTERS: UTILITY CUSTOMERS HAVE SYSTEM BUT NOT HONOR
(Letter to the Editor ~ 11/28/00)
To the editor: Seeing the policy change our city officials have had to make regarding residential utility connections reminds me of the college administrator explaining a change in student testing procedures: "We have had to abandon the honor system as regards student testing. AREA UNINSURED VEHICLES EXCEED AVERAGES
(Editorial ~ 11/28/00)
Uninsured motorists are once again in the news. For Missourians, as usual, there is good news, and there is bad news. First the good news: The statewide percentage of uninsured vehicles in 1999 reached its lowest point since Missouri began requiring mandatory automobile liability coverage in 1987. Statewide, the rate plummeted from 1998, when there were a projected 350,483 uninsured vehicles on the road. For 1999, that number was 287,486, a drop of about 63,000 vehicles...

WHEN THE GOING GETS TOUGH, THE TOUGH WATCH FOOTBALL (COLUMN)

So far, every news organization in the world has missed the big news. Thank goodness for me. It all started Sunday afternoon. CBS was televising the Tennessee-Jacksonville game. SPEAK OUT
(Speak Out ~ 11/28/00)
JUST READ your article about the poor ticket sales for the Sheryl Crow concert. The answer is easy: advertising. Perhaps if universities in the region, such as Southern Indiana, were aware of this benefit concert, they might wish to attend...
