LETTERS: CHOOSING OUR COURSE
(Letter to the Editor ~ 03/06/96)
To the editor: During a period of political campaigns, party leaders as well as the parties themselves will claim that they have the answers and are uniquely qualified to guide the course of history to help us realize our potential. There are always those who claim that they have the experience and ability to bring us that kind of fulfillment and success which as modern messiahs they can offer us for a mere vote of approval...

But that has changed, thanks to a change in the statewide law. Prospective law enforcement officers now need 470 hours of certified training. The change places Missouri 23rd among the 50 states in terms of required training hours...

POWER PLAY: MY CHOICE FOR SCHOOL CHOICE IS NO CHOICE
(Column ~ 03/06/96)
I must say I enjoyed former Vice President Dan Quayle's speech Monday at the Show Me Center. Although he spouted off traditional conservative themes while offering little new insight or ideas, he did it well. During his tenure as the country's best known benchwarmer -- a position also known as vice president -- Quayle was portrayed by the national media as a complete buffoon. That characterization, it seems, was an unfair one...
