BOOK ON CAPE GIRARDEAU HISTORY IS NOW AVAILABLE

The photographs stare out at you: snapshots of Cape Girardeau's richly hued past, from the businesses to the buildings to the people. The black-and-white photographs are contained in a book called "Images of the Past in the City of Roses." The 240-page pictorial history book, published by the Southeast Missourian, includes about 600 photographs. Some of them date back to the late 1800s while others are as recent as this summer's flood...

Two Cape Girardeau firefighters were injured in a small blaze in a residential garage at 1120 Bertling. Lt. Bob Thompson said firefighters responded to the fire at 6:28 a.m. Friday and the fire was under control within five minutes. Firefighter Jeff Banken was injured when the garage door fell on him and firefighter Dean Lynn suffered a fractured nose when a board over the garage door hit him in the face.
