A team of 10 Anheuser-Busch Clydesdales arrive in Cape Girardeau for a week's stay at the SEMO District Fair. It's the first time in 14 years the Clydesdales have a part in the fair, participating in the fair parade Monday.

JONESBORO, Ill. -- Thirteen protesters are arrested west of Jonesboro after stopping six East Perry Lumber Co. trucks carrying logs from Shawnee National Forest. Two protesters chain themselves to the frames of two of the trucks. It takes authorities nearly three hours to cut them loose. As many as 20 others lie under the wheels of trucks and climb onto the trucks and block traffic before authorities arrive.

1966

Regular enrollment at State College begins in the morning, and by noon, 147 students have been processed, raising the registration of students who have paid their fall semester fees to 4,577. Regular registration continues in the afternoon and should be completed by Thursday.

The Jackson City Council last night agreed to extend Daylight Saving Time until the last Sunday in October. Council members decided that, in view of Cape Girardeau's action to extend daylight time, Jackson should do the same. Councilmen said the two cities are too interrelated to be on different time.

1941

The Rev. A.B. Cooper of Charleston, Missouri, speaks at the morning and evening worship services at Red Star Baptist Church. As yet, the congregation has taken no final action toward securing a pastor to succeed the Rev. H.C. Croslin, who is now field representative for the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, Louisville, Kentucky.

The three-week tent revival of the Full Gospel Mission at South Frederick Street and Maple Avenue closes in the evening. The Rev. and Mrs. J.C. Bishop, evangelists of Del Rio, Texas, have been in charge of the services, assisted by the local pastor, the Rev. William Paul Smith.

1916

Lee L. Albert, C.M. Freeman, W.C. Bahn, L.L. Dalton and Henry Kelpe of Cape Girardeau have been summoned to federal court for the October term to serve as either grand or petit jurors. From Jackson, Joe Schmuke, Herman Wolters and A.N. Caldwell were chosen. Wade Anderson of Commerce, Missouri, will have to quit mule buying for France long enough to give his own country his services.

An 8-foot-tall board fence is built in front of the old Terminal Hotel site, hiding the unsightly hole left there by the big fire in March. It was reported some time ago that Charles Overstolz purchased the property and would construct a modern building on it for business purposes.
