After nearly five months of debate, the Cape Girardeau City Council once again fails to vote on a construction-trades licensing law; following a lengthy discussion, the council votes 5-2 to remand the revised version of the law to the city staff for further amendments.
The strike of the Atlas Plastics Corp., was settled last night, when members of Local 796, International Chemical Workers, voted to accept a two-year contract with the company; production at the plant will resume Tuesday, after the Labor Day holiday.

The monkey business in and around Jackson is over for the time being; the monkey which escaped from one of the concessions during Jackson Homecomers last week has been caught; Lester Savers, 18, saw the animal near the home of his parents two miles northeast of Jackson on the Greens Ferry Road; he and his dogs gave chase; with the help of Bern Savers, the two were able to capture the monkey.
