Rain, which begins with a drizzle in the early afternoon and develops into heavy showers later, hampers attendance at the SEMO District Fair, including the George Morgan Show in the evening; 5,222 people attend the fair, down slightly when compared to Wednesday attendance in 1965 with 6,013.

The Republicans have a new candidate for state representative from the 150th District, but won't say who; he was nominated last night by the 150th District GOP committee, and his name was submitted to the state; the Rev. Lawrence Kennon of Advance, Missouri, who had been the candidate, withdrew because of illness.

1941

A new pipe organ is dedicated in the morning at Hanover Lutheran Church; Charles W. McManis of Kansas City, Kansas, who installed the two-manual type organ, plays a recital in the evening of classical and religious numbers.

The Rev. Leon Kimbel of Pine Bluff, Arkansas, is the speaker at morning and evening services at Red Star Baptist Church; Kimbel is a candidate for pastor of Red Star to succeed the Rev. H.C. Croslin, who resigned to take a position with the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.

1916

Inclement weather last night forced the postponement of the big Capaha Parade, which was to be held in connection with the start of the fair; instead, the parade will be tonight, the delay affording the decorators the opportunity to polish off the floats.

C.A. Vandivort of Jackson has bought the Glenn Mercantile Co. stock of dry goods and furnishings and will take charge tomorrow; Vandivort has contemplated moving to Cape Girardeau for a long time; he also has purchased the old Engelmann home, corner of Bellevue and Middle streets, to house his family.
