The annual Southeast Missouri labor picnic at Elks Lake looks more like a rally for gubernatorial candidate Vince Schoemehl; the picnic shelter is decorated with a Schoemehl banner, and posters are scattered around the area; those attending are given "Schoemehl for governor" tickers and urged to wear them, which most do.

The Central High Tigers clicked on virtually all cylinders last night, as they rolled to a 39-14 victory over the Jackson Indians before an overflow crowd at Jackson's football stadium.

The men of the Jaco family of Delta are building a seagoing tradition; Cletus Jaco ended a 20-year naval career Sunday and arrived home from California a day before his son, Clinton Jaco, re-enlisted in the service; the younger Jaco has been in the Navy four years and is stationed in North Carolina; another son, Kenny Jaco, is stationed in Spain with the Navy.

Dr. Paul B. Nussbaum has been elected president of the Toastmasters Club, succeeding John W. Likens; Nussbaum practiced for 10 years in St. Louis and since 1934 has been a urologist in Cape Girardeau.

The Rev. R.N. Barret of Princeton, Indiana, field representative of the Home Mission Board of the General Baptist Church, and founder and first pastor of the local church, is speaker at the services in the morning; Barrett organized the local General Baptist Church Jan. 16, 1927, at a meeting held in Common Pleas Courtroom, with 15 charter members.

ORAN, Mo. -- A crowd of 2,200 people attend the third annual fall rally of the Catholic Youth Organization in Southeast Missouri held here; 18 of the 22 parishes in the district are represented at the rally; the feature of the event is a big field Mass held on the new cemetery grounds.

B.G. McGinty, secretary of the Interstate Commerce Commission, has notified Mayor F.A. Kage that the commission has declined to suspend the C. & E.I. Railroad coal rate increase, which went into effect Oct. 1; the commission, however, has decided that in case a formal complaint is made against the new rate, it will investigate the situation.

Ralph Planet, the young balloonist who fell when his balloon collapsed at the fairground Saturday and sustained a broken leg, is removed from Saint Francis Hospital and placed aboard the afternoon Frisco train for St. Louis; from there he will be taken to the home of his father at Wentzville, Missouri.
