First Missouri Terminals, a recently formed corporation that will handle liquid fertilizer, has become the fourth tenant of the Southeast Missouri Regional Port Authority; the company will lease 2.5 acres near the harbor from the port and has begun construction on a one-million-gallon bulk-liquid fertilizer-storage tank.

Toll-free telephone calling between Cape Girardeau and Jackson and Illmo-Scott City will go into effect Nov. 3, it is reported by DuNard Cooper, manager of Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. here; installation of an underground cable to connect Cape Girardeau and the Illmo-Scott City area is nearing completion.

Two of the three federal prisoners who were at large in Southeast Missouri after escaping their guards last Thursday near Marion, Illinois, have been re-captured near Albuquerque, New Mexico; the third escapee remains at large as the FBI continues the search throughout the country.

The Rev. J.E. Isbell, new pastor of Maple Avenue Methodist Church, assumes his pastoral duties, preaching at both the morning and evening hours; he succeeds the Rev. W.N. Ware, who has been transferred to Potosi, Missouri.

The Rev. I.E. Taylor, district missionary, speaks at services at First Baptist Church; the Rev. H.H. McGinty, pastor, and Mrs. McGinty are at the Mayo Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota, where the minister is taking treatments.

1916

H.B. Barry, an engineer with the Frisco Railroad, suggests during his visit here Main Street should be opened south of Independence Street, which will give the future railroad depot two fronts; he also suggests Aquamsi Street be widened, as plans now show it merely a narrow alley.

Albert M. Spradling, one of the rising young lawyers of the county, has leased a suite of rooms in the L.B. Houck building on Main Street and will move his law offices there from Jackson no later than Nov. 15; Spradling has been practicing law at the county seat since he was admitted to the bar in January 1908; he was associated with Wilson Cramer for several years.
