A partnership designed to benefit Cape Girardeau's minority students, the public school district and Southeast Missouri State University will begin in the next academic year; Grow Your Own was initiated by the Professional Black Men's Club as a way to encourage talented minority students to become teachers in the Cape Girardeau public schools.

Deserting Fairground Park for the more spacious new city park on Highway 61, the Cape Girardeau American Legion post announces its annual Fourth of July picnic will be at the new location; the fireworks display to be presented in the evening will be on a more elaborate scale than ever before.

Tony Hohler, embalmer at the Walther Furniture and Undertaking Co., left Saturday morning for St. Louis to attend the state undertakers' convention, which will be there through Wednesday; Mrs. Hohler and children accompanied him and will go from there to Chester, Illinois, to visit relatives.
For the second time in the last 15 months, and the third time since occupying the present location, the Hobbs furniture and clothing store at Water and Themis streets is damaged by fire; damage is estimated at $4,000, which is remarkably low considering the flames had a good start and the fact the city fire hose breaks in two places while firemen are fighting the blaze.
