ASHEVILLE, N.C. -- A search continues in the mountainous area around Asheville for a missing plane that was reportedly being operated by former Cape Girardean John Godwin, when it disappeared Tuesday on a flight from Greensboro to Franklin, North Carolina; in Cape Girardeau, he and J.T. Seesing were partners in Cape Central Airways.

The Mildenberger & Willing (M&W) Packaging U.S. Inc. plant, near the Procter & Gamble plant, is in production, but recent rains have forced a postponement of the official "First Bag" ceremony, which had been planned for Wednesday.

1965

Final statistics of the State College baseball team show why the squad set a modern school record of 16 victories in 20 decisions; as a team, Southeast had a .290 batting average with Steve Vaughn leading the way among the regulars with a lusty .428; at the same time, the Indians' pitching staff held opposing batters to a combined .194 average.

Ronald Albrecht has been named salutatorian of the senior class of Illmo-Scott City High School; he is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Albrecht; valedictorian is Diane Roth, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walton Roth.

In retiring at the end of the present school year, Professor F.W. Niermann of Trinity Lutheran School will bring to a close a half century devoted entirely to the teaching profession, 29 years at Trinity; he plans to go to Baltimore to be with two daughters living there.

Moore Haw of Charleston, Missouri, lay leader of the Cape Girardeau district of the Methodist Church, speaks at services in the morning at Maple Avenue Methodist Church; he is a brother of the Rev. J. Linn Haw, the late pastor, who succumbed last Friday.

1915

After a turbulent meeting of the managers of the Southeast Missouri Baseball League and league officers yesterday, Capahas' manager Dep Barenkamp withdrew his team from the league; Barenkamp was unable to compromise with the Caruthersville manager regarding a dispute over Sunday's forfeited game; a new league will be formed on the wreck of the old one.

The steamer Peoria, the newest and finest boat on the Mississippi River, arrives in the evening with the Southeast Missouri Drummers, who are on their way to Caruthersville, Missouri, to attend the annual convention.
