The board of directors of Citizens Against the Lake is trying to arrange a meeting with Gov. John Ashcroft to encourage him to veto legislation that would give voters an opportunity to decide if they want to fund a 7,700-acre, Cape Girardeau-Bollinger County recreational lake with a one-cent sales tax.
Work is underway that will turn a vacant apartment building on Henderson Avenue into the new home of KRCU radio, Southeast Missouri State University's radio station; the station is currently located in cramped quarters in the basement of the Grauel Building.

CAIRO, Ill. -- Plans are being considered for locating a branch flying school near here under management of the Parks Air College of East St. Louis, Illinois; Parks, which trains pilots and mechanics, in line with governmental action, expects to step up its cadet pilot graduations from 15 in six weeks to 120 every five weeks.
Judge Alexander Ross, 81, dies at his home on upper Broadway in the morning; he had been ill a long time and for several months was confined to his home; he is survived by his widow and five daughters.
Contractor C.J. Reisenbichler begins work on the new garage building to be constructed on the north side of the 200 block of Broadway, opposite The Republican newspaper building; the building, which will adjoin Dr. List's property, will be 50x100 feet and will be of brick and concrete, making it fireproof.
