Packing closing activities into two full days, 167 graduates of Teachers College hold their commencement exercises in the morning at Academic Hall auditorium; the commencement is also the occasion for delivering teachers' certificates to a large group of underclassmen, announcing of awards, and delivering diplomas to the 30 members of the senior class of College High School; commencement speaker is Dr. Jay W. Hudson, professor of philosophy at the University of Missouri.
Mayor Hinkle Statler is authorized to purchase a new police patrol car, and the city council is promised immediate delivery of its new street sweeping machine during a council meeting; the new patrol car will replace a Ford car with approximately 130,000 miles on it.
Conrad Schade, the popular High Street tavern owner, is out of business, his dramshop license having expired last night; the Jackson man has sold his stock to Schaper & Voges, who will continue the business at the same location.
R.M. Dorrance, treasurer of the barbers' state board of examiners, and J.H. Faust, secretary of the board, are in Cape Girardeau inspecting the barber shops and examining the new barbers who have settled here since their last visit; the new barbers include W.L. Denton, C.A. Rogers, Peter Calliot and Frank Smith.
