KELSO, Mo. -- Voters in Kelso yesterday overwhelmingly approved a $1.7 million bond issue that will fund construction of a citywide sewer system; 92 percent of those who went to the polls said yes to the measure.
Roger Moen of Cape Girardeau, special agent with the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, is one of two ATF agents in the nation to be recognized for successfully investigating drug trafficking; he earned the award for his two-year investigation that netted nine motorcycle-gang members involved in a three-state drug-trafficking ring.
A "good-sized crowd" attends Aviation Day at Cape Girardeau Municipal Airport; the event is sponsored by the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Club of Cape Girardeau and is held to acquaint the public with the airport facilities; 308 plane rides are given by members of the club and the local chapter of the Ninety-Nines, an organization of women pilots; in addition, 108 passengers ride in the DC-3 provided by Ozark Air Lines.

Scivally, engineer for the Cape Special Road District, is hoping another stretch of the Gordonville Road can be built this summer; the defense program is delaying delivery on steel and other materials, but the road district, using its own equipment, expects to build 1 to 1 1/2 miles of the road this summer and fall.

On a vote of 5-3, the Cape Girardeau City Council gives the ladies of the Civic Improvement Association permission to charge admission for entrance to the new city park July 4, where a big picnic will be held; the money raised will be used to carry on the work of the association.
