Limbaugh brings his 1990 "Rush To Excellence Tour" here as a benefit for the Patty McQuay Trust Fund.

Central High School's commencement exercises yesterday were moved from Houck Stadium to a steamy Central High gymnasium because of rain; the 279 graduating seniors heard remarks from Dr. Kala Stroup, president of Southeast Missouri State University.

1965

The City Public Works Department starts work in the morning on replacing concrete at the busy Broadway-West End Boulevard intersection. During the work, only eastbound traffic on Broadway will be permitted to pass through the intersection; westbound traffic will be detoured on Park, and north-south traffic will be barred.

Three Girardeans have answered the call of the wild, at least for the summer months. John Landess, Freddy Braun and David Compas departed Cape Girardeau yesterday by car, bound for Alaska. Landess will manage a Standard Oil station at Keani, Alaska; Compas plans to work in a salmon cannery or do construction work; and Braun will look for a job when he reaches his destination.

1940

Dr. C.H. Morton, pastor of the Presbyterian Church, gives the Memorial Day address at the public service conducted in the afternoon at Old Lorimier Cemetery on Fountain Street; the graves of soldiers, sailors and Marines are decorated for the observance.

A memorial service is held in the evening at Grace Methodist Church, at which groups of veterans of the city are special guests; speaker for the service is the Rev. William H. Wolfe, pastor.

1915

A.A. Deevers and other farmers in the Egypt Mills neighborhood are praising Dr. J.S. Leher, the Cape Girardeau veterinarian, for some splendid work done recently. Leher saved a valuable mule for Deevers that was considered beyond help.

The Cotton Blossom, probably the best known showboat on the Mississippi River, entertained a large crowd on Cape Girardeau's levee last night.
