BENTON, Mo. -- The first grand jury in Scott County in nearly 20 years has concluded its six-month term, but another grand jury could be convened this fall, says county prosecutor David Dolan; the term of a Mississippi County grand jury, which began at the same time, has been extended for 60 days at the request of a special prosecutor.

1966

Four western-togged sailors docked in Cape Girardeau Friday aboard the sole vessel of the mythical Nebraska Navy, which has been created in celebration of the state's centennial to be held next year; welcoming the crew were personnel of the Naval Reserve Unit at the municipal airport.

Six Boy Scouts from Cape Girardeau have been approved for the rank of Eagle Scout: Craig J. Kirby, Richard Gillispie, Randy Taylor, Rusty Mitten, Robert Dunham and William Dunham.

1941

The usual summer repair and renovation program at Teachers College, in previous years at advanced stages of preparation at this point, is pretty well stymied with little chance that the difficulty will be set aright until Gov. Forrest C. Donnell signs an appropriations bill granting the institution $466,000 for the next biennium; August is the only month of the year the school doesn't operate, but needed repairs won't be done without an influx of funds.

Director G.B. Snider of the district WPA office at Farmington, Missouri, announces that the office will be moved to Cape Girardeau in the near future.

1916

Albert Kempe, Arthur Kempe, Martin Bender, August Schrader and Chris Bauer drive about eight miles north on the Bend Road, where they enjoy an early-morning dip, after which they cook breakfast on the banks of the nearby creek and rest several hours in the cool before returning home.

A large party of young people and their chaperons leaves early in the morning and spends the day at Juden's Creek on the Bend Road, fishing, swimming and relaxing; the party includes Tony Schrader, Floyd Couchman, Louis Kassel, Arthur Lorimier of St .Louis, William Brunkhorst, Frieda McClatchy, Viola and Lilian Boyce, Clarence Kassel, Russell Bell, Ernest Foster, Jake Mussbach, Joie Scotti, and Henry, Tony and Al Schrader.
