Perryville, Missouri, Alderman Robert V. Pirrie, 52, was killed late yesterday afternoon, when the single-engine plane he was flying crashed into a plowed, muddy field west of Dutchtown.
The Cape Girardeau City Council has tabled action on a proposal to repeal parking restrictions on Kage Hills Drive, after 10 residents of the street attended yesterday's council meeting to oppose the parking ban; residents said they would settle for no-parking along the crest of a hill on the street, provided parking is allowed on at least one side of the remainder of the street.
Harry Reasoner, well-known television newsman with CBS, will be in Cape Girardeau next month to address district teachers; he will be one of the speakers at the annual meeting of the Southeast Missouri Teachers Association on the State College campus March 17 and 18.
The County Court reviews final specifications for alterations to the home at 37 S. Frederick St. in Cape Girardeau, which the county plans to convert into a juvenile detention home; the designs were drawn by contractor Marvin Deimund.
Husband E. Kimmel, whose parents were residents of Cape Girardeau and the county much of their lives, has been advanced from rear admiral to admiral over 40 other admirals to take his place as commander in chief, U.S. Fleet; the admiral and Cape Girardeau's own Delia Kimmel share the same grandfather, Singleton Husband Kimmel.
A Cape Girardeau County clinic for the needy sick will open Monday on the second floor of the Gorman store building on Main Street in Cape Girardeau; the clinic will be maintained by doctors of the Cape County Medical Society for the care of the indigent sick.
Dr. Eli J. Forsythe, once an auditor for an eastern railroad, has been selected to conduct a monster revival starting about June 4 in Cape Girardeau; he currently is in the closing week or two of a great campaign at Detroit, where to date he has converted about 2,000 people.
E.C. Allen, the new landlord of the Riverview Hotel, is not sparing any expense in fixing up the place; he and others who are in business on Water Street plan to petition the city council for a white-way light on each corner at Broadway and Water Street.
