The Rev. David V. Dissen, pastor of Trinity Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau, has been elected first vice president of the Missouri District of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod; in his new position, Dissen will advise, assist and represent the district president at his request.
The Rev. G. Thomas Gross is the new pastor of Zion United Methodist Church at Gordonville; a graduate of Southeast Missouri State University and Eden Theological Seminary, Gross assumed his new duties at Zion on Jan. 15.
The second half-interest in a 52-acre tract in Trail of Tears State Park is acquired by the State Park Board; earlier, the tract created a stir in the county when it was learned the land was to be sold to a construction company to be used as a quarry.
An all-night snow blankets Cape Girardeau with four inches of heavy snow; Jackson measures five to six inches of snow; despite the snowfall, there is little traffic difficulty.
All is ready for The Missourian's 15th annual Cooking School, which will open tomorrow at the Broadway Theater; guest lecturer for the four-day affair will be Emily Lautz, assisted by June Metcalf.
The names of 14 men, who will be summoned for Army service in two Selective Service calls the first week in March, are announced by chief clerk Allen A. Biri, Willard C. Holt, Leo J. Stock, Maynard R. Jean and Herbert A. Holshouser.
Adam Kidd of Hickory Ridge succeeded Sunday in finding the remains of his brother, Jim Kidd, who drowned in Crooked Creek about 25 years ago and was buried on the bank of that stream; Elmer Pittman guided Kidd to the grave, and the remains were removed to the Kynion graveyard.
The Buckner-Ragsdale store, at the corner of North Main Street and Broadway, is the busiest spot in the city; at least a dozen carpenters are making all kinds of alterations to the interior, and plumbers, electricians and other artisans also are at work there in large numbers; the big store is being completely rearranged and modernized.
