The first worship service in the new sanctuary at First Assembly of God Church is held in the morning; the building program started in February 1989 and will be completed in March; the new facilities consist of an enlarged auditorium with seating capacity of about 700, a spacious foyer, secretary's office, pastor and associates' offices, nursery for infants, restrooms, and large auditorium on the lower level with a total of 13,000 feet of new addition and newly remodeled area.
Two Cape Girardeau residents last night received top honors at the annual Knights of Columbus Council No. 1111 recognition banquet; honored were Vicki Strop, Outstanding Woman of the Year, and Jim Kuss, Knight of the Year.
A.C. Brase and John L. Wescoat of the Cape County Parks and Recreation Board appear before the County Court to discuss beginning development work on a 20-acre tract of the County Farm west of Interstate 55; initial work on the land includes clearing it of underbrush so that it can be surveyed and roads laid out properly.
Construction is set to begin this week on a new furniture store in the 2000 block of North Kingshighway for Peyton O. Patrick; the new retail outlet, to be known as Patrick Furniture Mart, will be centered on a 4-acre tract purchased from the Drury Tile and Plastering Co.
G. Robert Trimble, a former student at the Teachers College here, is one of eight young men from Missouri who were transferred Feb. 1 to the Army's advanced flying school at Kelly Field at San Antonio; Trimble has been stationed at Randolph Field at San Antonio since last August, when he left Cape Girardeau and reported for preliminary flying instruction.
After spending the past three years in Germany, Clara Foersch has returned to Cape Girardeau and is residing at 513 William St.
Mrs. Sallie Peterman, who formerly operated the Idan-Ha Hotel here, has returned to Cape Girardeau and will be in charge of the Riverview Hotel, just across from the union railroad station.
The first of the four new dredging machines, which will dig out the big diversion channel just south of Cape Girardeau, started work this week; the second machine will soon be erected and will start work at a point not far from Allenville.
