Southeast Missouri Hospital is one of only 36 hospitals in the nation that soon will be offering a new approach to removing coronary artery blockages; the catheter treatment method, referred to as Directional Coronary Atherectomy, will be offered at Southeast beginning about Sept. 1.

Three barges break loose from their moorings a mile north of Cape Girardeau on the Mississippi River in the morning but are caught by two derrick boats from the Missouri Dry Dock before they can do any damage. The barges, owned by the Jones Towing Co. of New Orleans, were tied upstream while the towboat, the James Jones, was taking another barge to docking facilities.
Grading was started this week on a portion of a 60-acre tract on the south side of Gordonville Road and across from the site of the proposed new Saint Francis Hospital; Drury Tile & Plastering Co., owner of the land, reports the site development is in preparation for future commercial structures.
The Rev. O.L. Smith of Louisville, Kentucky, is guest speaker at the morning service at the Christian Church; he is here visiting his son, R.P. Smith, a member of the local congregation. The Rev. Smith is a former pastor of the congregation, serving from 1925 to 1926, and now is retired.
Elam Vangilder Night is staged at the South Side Park in St. Louis at a game between the Capahas and the Borbein-Young team, a municipal league club, with the Caps winning 10-5; prior to the game, Vangilder was presented a testimonial by his many friends with former major-league pitcher Lefty Leifield making the presentation speech.
It is discovered in the morning at the Al Brinkopf furniture store that a burglar who broke in Monday night and robbed the cash register of $22.35 also tried to burn the store; in two places, burned paper is found that no doubt had been set on fire by the burglar.
Robert Lamkin and his family will move to the J.A. Hawkins residence on Fountain Street, just south of Themis, next week. The Lamkins have lived for several years in the Albert house on Merriwether Street, west of Spanish; this place was sold to Tom Lilly, who will occupy it.
