CAIRO, Ill. -- Illinois Sens. Paul Simon and Carol Moseley-Braun, both Democrats, were speakers yesterday during three "town meetings" held in Southern Illinois; among topics discussed were the federal budget, flood conditions, the North American Free Trade Agreement and health issues.

Charles G. Blaylock begins work as minister of religious education at the First Baptist Church in Cape Girardeau; he has served as minister of religious education at the Spring Valley Baptist Church in Raytown, Missouri, since 1965.

A reception is held in the afternoon in the lower auditorium of Centenary United Methodist Church for the Rev. Clyde E. Byrd and family; Byrd and his family will be leaving Cape Girardeau Aug. 26 for San Antonio, Texas, where he has accepted a position as minister of education at the Travis Park United Methodist Church; he has been minister of education at Centenary the past five years.

Cape Girardeau County's quote for the Third War Loan is $1,194,000, it is announced by Clyde D. Harris, chairman of Group 17 of the district war loan organizations, and Walter H. Oberheide, county chairman; the amount is $551,000 above the county's quota for the Second War Loan drive, conducted in April.

New hardwood floors are being installed throughout the Agriculture Building at State College; the maple flooring replaces the original floors installed when the building was erected; the material was purchased last year, and work is being done by 15 carpenters under the direction of W.A. Chapman, superintendent of buildings and grounds.

The revival meeting at the Third Methodist Church in North Cape Girardeau is being well attended and much good is resulting, says the Rev. W.L. Halberstadt of Centenary Methodist Church, who is assisting the Rev. C.J. Barham, the pastor; the Third Methodist Church is a new one that is filling a great need in the area; it is ideally located in a picturesque house that was once a home surrounded by a beautiful grove overlooking the river.

Three more Cape Girardeau County girls have signed up for the U.S. Student Nurse Reserves: Phelma Brewer, Gertrude Finney and Louise Wassem; Finney already has a sister serving as a nurse in France.
