Sales tax money for the first four months of 1993 is coming in at a pace well ahead of last year; the City of Cape Girardeau and Cape Girardeau County report receipts from their sales taxes running a little more than 7 percent ahead of 1992; Jackson is showing growth of almost 6 percent.

Representatives of the Cape Girardeau, Bollinger and Perry County Human Resources Corp. plan to announce the establishment of the Legal Aid Society in the corporation's three-county area; the society will provide free legal services to the poor in civil matters and misdemeanor cases.

Marine Pfc. Charles F. Finley, 19, son of Mr. and Mrs. Zeno Finley of Cape Girardeau, was killed last Thursday in a helicopter collision in Vietnam; Finley had been wounded in action near Dong Ha and was being evacuated to a 3rd Battalion hospital, when the crash occurred.

The blue-eyed baby girl abandoned on a porch of a Merriwether Street residence late Wednesday night is doing well at Saint Francis Hospital; meanwhile, more than half a dozen inquiries have come to the police department and Mayor R.E. Beckman from people interested in adopting the infant.

Boosted by the first official returns from Jackson and the county rural areas, Cape Girardeau County's tally on the third day of the Second War Loan campaign stands at $466,122.75, or 70 percent of its goal; Scott County's total so far is $443,000, $42,000 beyond its quota.

Among the list of men on the American Collier Cyclops, which has been overdue at an American port since March 4, is the name of Charles Yancy Blackledge, son of the Commerce, Missouri, physician; Blackledge was a storekeeper on the ship and had been in service for about one year.

Jack Adkins has received a letter from his son, Jim, saying he has been transferred from Company K of the 19the Infantry to Company D of the 27th Machine Gun Battalion; the young soldier has been placed in charge of the mules belonging to the company; he is in Fort Sam Houston, Texas.
