The Missouri Senate passes and sends to the governor a bill that will authorize the collector of Cape Girardeau County to maintain a branch office in the Common Pleas Courthouse; if Gov. Warren Hearnes signs the measure, it will remedy legislation that expired because of a technicality on population and that had provided for many years that an office be maintained here.

NEW MADRID, Mo. -- Investigation into the presence of large amounts of an insecticide containing arsenic found near here Monday led to the discovery of an additional 1,000 pounds of the insecticide yesterday morning; the second quantity was found dumped along St. John's Ditch near Tallapoosa, Missouri, about 15 miles southwest of New Madrid.

Alexander Varonaeff, a Russian missionary, speaks in the evening at the Full Gospel Mission, 311 N. Fountain St., on his experiences of living in Russia as a missionary for 11 years.

Driving an automobile from Indiana, across Illinois, and ending up in Cape Girardeau, a 21-year-old Loogootee, Indiana, man gives himself up at police headquarters here at noon; he tells an odd tale of having gotten in trouble at Loogootee and starting out on a wild driving spree; he admits he was under the influence of strong drink, marveling a bit that he didn't have a wreck.

Cape Girardeau has a new mayor and city council, the old officers having adjourned the council meeting sine die last night after finishing up all its business; within five minutes, the same body of men met again as the new mayor and council began their work reorganizing; one of the new appointments of the council was a new fire chief, A.C. Dittlinger replacing John Sullinger.

The United Daughters of the Confederacy is hoping to have a large audience at the benefit recital Monday at the Normal School by Margaret Hinchey; the ladies are raising money to have a memorial gate placed at the entrance to the old Lorimier Cemetery.
