The Rev. David M. Gustafson has been named the new pastor of Evangelical Free Church of Cape Girardeau; he formerly served in campus ministry as director of Campus Crusade for Christ at California State University in Fresno.
After eight years working with the city's youth, Michael Heston, executive director of the Cape Girardeau Civic Center, has resigned the post; Calvin Bird, Heston's assistant, has been named interim director.
Milford J. Winchester, a Cape Girardeau city fire dispatcher, suffered head and back injuries Tuesday afternoon, when his car plunged into a deep ravine in Trail of Tears Park; Winchester, 52, was said to have lain at the scene about two hours before crawling back to the road, where he was discovered by a camper and brought to a hospital.
Three Cape Girardeau policemen have been promoted and several reassigned in the first major administrative changes taken by chief of police Irvin E. Beard; promoted were Sgt. Shannon W. Kelley to lieutenant, patrolman Naamon Dale Eaker to sergeant and patrolman Harold White to sergeant.
The Rev. Don E. Schooler, who, with his wife, returned Thursday after an absence of 10 weeks during a European tour, preaches in the morning at Centenary Methodist Church; the couple traveled with the Sherwood Eddy Seminar party, visiting London, Berlin, Warsaw, Budapest, Amsterdam, Paris and other places on the continent.
Clyde D. Harris, president of First National Bank, goes to Arcadia, Missouri, to attend the annual meeting of Group 6 of the Missouri Bankers Association, of which he is treasurer.
The new Park Theater, in the 200 block of Broadway, opens in the evening; the Missouri Girls' Quartet, coming here from St. Louis, will furnish the music for the opening week; the first film to be shown is "A Royal Imposter," in five massive reels and in color; the Park seats 600 people and is under the management of Henry Sanders and Dr. T.P. Fristoe.
Cape Girardeau and Jackson businessmen yesterday took part in the second day of their get-together tour, stopping at Oak Ridge, Daisy, Friedheim, Arnsburg and Appleton.
